Hi,

I have just been called for an interview for the role of a trainee Oracle DBA. I have used Oracle, Access and MySQL in the past but only at the university. I know the basics of RDBMS, SQL etc. How do I prepare for the interview in terms of likely questions? Any suggesions from the experienced DBAs here? Thanks a lot gentlemen.

Although I am not a DBA, I have only one suggestion: be honest.
If you are not, you will either fail the interview, fail your job, or have a miserable time on the job.
Imagine you succeed in tricking the interviewers thinking you are a well-experienced guy. That will mean that you will not get much coaching on the job; after all, you are the man, you said so yourself in the interview.

Hi,

Thanks a lot the links you have sent are fantastic reference. But do I need to know about other Oracle prodcuts such as Oracle Financials and ERM tools etc? I am not much aware of the PL/SQL concept, what about that? I must say that I am grateful to all the guys who have given me suggestions on the topic. Thanks very much again.

Don't be afraid to admit when you don't know something.

On the other hand, show your perspective employer that you know how to research and find the answers.

As pabloblee said, show your eagerness to learn and some initiative.

Answer questions in a way that promote discussion

Good luck !
