Different Explain in Different Instances. [message #258625]

Hi all,

when am trying to run a query in my test instance it runs faster and the cost is just '7000' but when i run the same query in another instance the cost is '64000'.

The explain plan is extremely different.Different Indexes are being used.Can any one help me out in this,plz this some wat urgent?

The version and all are one and the same.

If the cost has got reduced ,can we be sure that the performance has been improved.

Because in some cases I see that even the cost get reduced the performance is still worse.

Gather statistics is being done for all the tables periodically.
Can you suggest some other way to rectify the said problem.?
