Is there a way in Oracle 8i to update the Array data(e.g. nested table and varray)?

I created a table that contains an array column, and I want to update the array's data and append a new data to that array.

Please advise how to do that. Does it cannot be updated once created? If so, anyother suggestion for storing the data in an array.
