I see a few have had this error, however; I don't see any resolutions, I have program that work find under oracle 7 now under oracle 8.1.6 when executing a connect to the DB the program core dumps The machine is RS6000 with AIX 4.3.2

Have you looked in MetaLink. There are quite a few suggestions when you search on "libclntsh.a +AIX".
