Hi Suresh
Thanks for the fast reply. How do I view the global_names parameter in my remote db. is it in v$parameters?. Also in the help it says that the remote user needs to have create session privilige. once I am able to logon, it is there .. is it not?..

select value from v$parameter where name = 'global_names';

if you are able to connect to that database, that is enough.
