Appreciate if someone has any ideas on printing a bar code (such as a pick slip number eg. 223456) in Oracle Applications 10.7 char, reports 2.5 on a genicom (dot matrix)..I was unable to find any fonts for this when I searched.

Thanks in Advance,
Mac

Problem Description:
====================

Can Oracle Reports pass information to and/or create barcodes?

Problem Explanation:
====================

You would like to include a related barcode in addition to queried data on a
report.

For example:

You have a mailing label report, and would also like to represent each zip
code as a barcode.

[ Search words: bar code, barcode, 3-of-9, 3of9, barcod39 font, postal ]

Solution Description:
=====================

Use a third party barcode font, or add a barcode using the Oracle Graphics
tool.
[/B]

Third party barcode fonts are advertised in computer magazines, online
services and are offered in retail software stores. The fonts are operating
system specific and cannot be migrated. Oracle Corporation does not sell
barcode fonts, or support third party barcode fonts.

Using Microsoft Windows:
------------------------

Follow the steps below to use barcode fonts on Windows. For additional
information, see the Oracle Reports Designer ( 2.5.4 and above ) Help menu
under 'Cue Cards...' -> 'Add items and objects to a report' -> 'A Barcode'.

1. Install the barcode software on the PC. Open the Windows Control Panel
and choose Fonts Menu-> Add.

2. Design the report with the barcode number contained in a column.

3. Create or Default a layout.

4. Apply the barcode font to the field in the report layout by choosing
Format->Font from the Oracle Reports Designer.

Using Motif:
-------------
Follow the steps below to use barcode fonts on Motif:

1. Load the font file into the file system.

2. Ensure there is a font metrics file for that barcode font.

The font alias file uifont.ali identifies the name of the appropriate Font
Metrics file, which, if not included with the barcode font, must be
obtained directly from the font or printer vendor. The file is in an Adobe
format, and is referred to as the Adobe Font Metrics file (AFM). The
uifont.ali file resides in $Oracle_home/guicommon2/tk221/admin. The AFM
files are stored in $Oracle_home/guicommon2/tk21/admin/AFM.

3. Download the font file to the printer's resident memory.

4. Define the font file for Oracle Reports by adding an entry in the PPD file.
The PPD files can be found in the $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon2/tk21/admin/PPD
directory.

5. Apply the font to a field in the report layout by choosing Format->Font
from the Oracle Reports Designer.

Using Oracle Graphics:
----------------------
Another option would be to use Oracle Graphics instead of a third party
barcode font.

Oracle Graphics version 2.5 and above can create barcodes for the 3-of-9 and
US Postal barcodes. See the Advanced Mailing Label Report in
the Building Reports Manual for a detailed example of how to build this
report.

Oracle Reports version 2.5 offers a demonstration package to print postal
barcodes on mailing labels. Two PLL files used in Oracle Graphics 2.5 to
generate the 3of9 and US Postal barcodes can be found in the
$ORACLE_HOME/graph25/plsqllib directory.

Solution Explanation:
=====================

Oracle Graphics can create barcodes for the 3-of-9 and US Postal barcodes.
Barcode Fonts are also available from Third Party software vendors.

An Oracle Graphics-generated barcode ensures portability between platforms
whereas barcode fonts are faster and provide a greater range of barcode types.

Currently, new barcode types are being considered for inclusion in the second
release of the Developer 2000 suite of tools. They may include:

Postal
code 128
CODABAR
code 39
code 93
EAN 13 Digit
EAN 8 Digit
Interleaved 2 of 5
MSI code
PDF 417
UCC 128
UPC/EAN extension
UPCA11 digit
UPCE10 digit
UPCE06 digit
UPCE16 digit
