Hi I worked in Oracle on windows platform. Now the requirement is to work on Unix. why more companies are choosing Unix over windows? For an oracle user, what is the diffrence in work between Unix and windows? What shell scripts one need to write to continue to work in Unix?

Pls let me know.

Thanks in advance

Because Unix are much more flexible than Windows, are much more perfomant in multiuser environment(which in big databases is vital), etc. Windows are better for workstations(and this is only because there are more programs for Windows). For ordinary database user there are no one difference - user don't know under what type of OS are installed Oracle. Also there are big difference for DBA. Oracle functionality are the some(at last so write developers Smile ). But if you have some programs which working frm server by database, they must be rewrited.
