Being a beginner using Oracle, is there a book or document on the web someone would recommend to allow me to save/recover schemas/databases, install etc, upgrade etc. I haven't found a book with all the fundamentals in it yet,

Oracle Documentation is the one stop resource for all your needs.
>> save/recover schemas/databases,
any commercial book on backup/recovery
DOCUMENTATION: RMAN guides,Utilities manual.
>> install etc,upgrade
documentation is the only source.
Depending on your OS, there some very spefic help available.
For linux http://www.puschitz.com/ is the best place ( and that is my opinion).
for unix / windows the oracle docs do a pretty good job.
