My Oracle database is running on a hp-ux workstation under hp-ux 10.20. The version of Oracle is 8.0.3. The database is set up under /opt/oracle in four directories: oracle01, oracle02, oracle03, and oracle04 following Oracle's installation recommendations. The disk on which oracle03 is mounted has failed. ioscan shows the device but nothing can be read in the directory. The disks on which the other directories are mounted are ok.

I have a cold backup of /opt/oracle that was made not long before the disk failure. Some data would not be contained on the backup but I probably could recreate it.

What is my best means of recovery? Should I restore all of /opt/oracle from the cold backup? The data files appear to be oracle02, oracle03, and oracle04. Should I only restore them? Is it possible that I could in some way recover the database as it was at the time of failure?

Thanks for your help.
