Hi there all - just wondering if anyone's had any experience, good or bad, with IBM's ESS FlashCopy backups on large highly transactional Oracle databases?

We're getting a situation where disk writes that are occurring while the FlashCopy is executing are filling the AIX / ESS deferred transaction queue, causing various (raw) volumes to go offline at the Unix level.

These files then need recovery, as Oracle quite rightly complains that it can't see 'em... Transactions from the queue are also lost.

FlashCopy seems to operate in a different way to EMC's TimeFinder based backups, and looks much more suited to DB2/UDB backups than Oracle ones. Hardly surprising I suppose!

Any advice anyone?

Cheers!
