I need to have both Oracle 8 and Oracle 9 clients installed on Solaris server. Certain programs need to connect to Oracle 7 and others need to connect to Oracle 9.

Would someone have info on how to specify which Oracle  client that a UNIX account would use as its default?

Hi,

Install the different Oracle Clients in different Oracle Homes. After that in each user profile set the ORACLE_HOME & PATH variables to appropriate paths of oracle which that client is going to be connected.

If you only want to maintain a single tnsnames.ora, you can set up the environment variable "TNS_ADMIN" to point to that file.
