We have a system architecture based on Oracle, Linux and Corba running for one year on 3 boxes (3 separate databases) and it is very stable. It's a small OLTP environment so it wasn't very stressed. I think the optimal combination is RedHat 6.2 with Oracle 8.1.7 (it works fine also on 8.1.6 but don't even try installing 8.1.5).
If you have specific questions, you can e-mail me at zodrak@yahoo.com.
