This may be too little too late judging by the date but here it goes - anyways I have to start with the obvious questions and work up......

In your init.ora file, where is LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST pointing to?
Is your target db correctly registered with RMAN?
Have you taken a full database backup upon which to base your incremental backup stategy?
Have you tried to accomplish the same task using Backup Manager in OEM?
Is the RECOVERY_CATALOG_OWNER permission granted to user rman?
Have you tried doing an image copy?

Like I said may this will help - maybe it's too simple??? Maybe someone can benefit from it
