Is it possible and advisable to install discoverer version 9i or 10g, that uses EUL version 5, if the database is still in version 8.1.7.4?

The version of discoverer that comes with Oracle 8.x uses EUL version 4, and it's discoverer 4i.

So, I want to upgrade Discoverer without upgrading the Database.

What do you think?
