When I set this variable it changes my background color on thecanvas to the whatevr I assigned the visual attribute

set_canvas_property('cg$page_2', visual_attribute, 'background canvas');

How can I set the text color globally for everything on that  canvas?

yes u can use the visual attribute and u can inhreat it in each item u want.
