Let me explain my problem: I've got a table with a blob column in which I store any kind of documents, for example: word documents, excel, pdf... I'd like to indexe this column to be able to query into its content. I hear Intermedia do it. The question is: Which steps do I follow to perform this task ? Is Intertmedia a built-in oracle resource or a add-in installed separated ?

Thanks an advance.

InterMedia (now called Oracle Text) is built into 8i and above (I can't remember for sure on 8). There's documentation detailing how to use it (Oracle8i interMedia Text Reference). The basics are to load your data, create the text index and then query it using the contains operator. There's a ton of options involved with both creating the text index and the contains operator. Too numerous for here.
