hi,
my office has two instance ran as RAC, yesterday I found that the second instance was down. I got this message when I 'vi' the alert.log at bdump directory :
USER: terminating instance due to error 481
Instance terminated by USER, pid = 11975
it's look like that someone has down the instance for some reason. But what's the meaning of error 481 ?
thanks for advance.

Error 481 is ORA-00481:

$ oerr ora 481
00481, 00000, "LMON process terminated with error"
// *Cause: The global enqueue service monitor process died
// *Action: Warm start instance

Best regards.

Hi,

Good question, you should have a trace file with more info on your system. Also, I would log a call with Oracle Support to have them investigate the problem as well.

Best regards.

Hi,

So I should read the trace file ? I thought the alert.log is quite enough to know the problem. I'll trace the problem and give you the content.

Best regards,

Hery
