Hi guys,

Recently we have upgraded one of our production database from 9.2.0.5 to 10.2.0.4 version and we have been continuously facing ORA-12518. Listener couldnot handoff client connection.

I gone through the metalink Doc. 371983.1 that there is a bug and this is fixex in windows 10.2.0.3 Patch 1 Patch 5731535.

Whether the above patch is applicable for my database which is in 10.2.0.4 version.

Please advice.

Thanks & Regards,
Seenu.

In Readme file it has shown that the patch must be applied on top of 10.2.0.3 base release.

I am in confusion. whether this patch will be applicable to my 10.2.0.4 database version.

Thanks in Advance,
Seenu.

Hi Guys,

Recently we have migrated one of our production database from 9.2.0.5 to 10.2.0.4.0. After this we have been getting TNS-12518. Listener couldnot handoff client connection error regularly.

I have to restart the database for this and after some one or two hour the error occurs.

Is there any solution to fix this error.

Thanks & Regards,
Seenu.

It is has nothing to do with database.
Bouncing the listener would be enough.

Post the output of tnsping, contents of listener.ora, ORACLE_HOME values.

12518, 00000, "TNS:listener could not hand off client connection"
// *Cause: The process of handing off a client connection to another process
// failed.
// *Action: Turn on listener tracing and re-execute the operation. Verify
// that the listener and database instance are properly configured for
// direct handoff. If problem persists, call Oracle Support.
// *Comment: The problem can be worked around by configuring dispatcher(s)
// to specifically handle the desired presentation(s), and connecting
// directly to the dispatcher, bypassing the listener.

I have gone through the document and it is advised to apply Windows 10.2.0.3 patch 1 Patch 5731535.

The above patch is applicable only to 10.2.0.3 version database.

Our database is in 10.2.0.4.

Please advice.

Thanks & Regards,
Seenu.

Most competent folks won't change Production DB based upon answers from anonymous strangers.

Competent folks have a TEST environment so they can verify what happens for themselves.

You could submit a Service Request & see what/how Oracle's answers.
