Hi,

Is there a reason for dbms_alert.register('event') to be extremely slow (up to 200 seconds)?
Following information may be of importance:
- I'm running 8.1.7 on AIX4.3.3 (RS/6000 F50, 43P and E30), maintenance level 9.
- This happens only on startup of my application. Database already up. During startup, about 10 processes connect to the database, of which two register to two different alerts.
- After startup, a register takes only 0.02 seconds
- TKPROF does not show any CPU usage and has an elpased time value of 0.0.
- At startup of the application, the number of transactions on the database is almost zero. It may be working on a few hundred queries though.
- This now repeatable problem, did not occur a few months ago. Maybe since installation of Maintenance level 9 update of AIX 4.3.3. Can't test.

Questions:
- Is this a known problem?
- Can I use other tools to look deeper into the problem?

Thanks,

Mark Scheffer.
