Hi all, I am a very junior DBA (with 2 months experience) and wonder if you guys can give me a hand?
I am planning to setup a updatable snapshot (exact duplicate of the master database) on my second database server. My master and snapshot are both using Oracle 8i 8.1.6 standard edition. I have a few questions and wonder if anyone can help out.
1. Do I have to use export to create the snapshot first, then use OEM to setup the master site and snapshot site.
2. Say one set of my Web programs update tables 1,2,3 in the master sites and another set of pgms update tables 4,5,6 in the snapshot site. And according to my limited knowledge, All tables (table 1,2,3,4,5 and 6) will be in-sync becasue of the background replication jobs. However, If the master site is down, does it mean I have to manaually change my pgm's connection to point to the Snapshot site. Or in general, is there anyway to make these transparent???
