Hello All,

we have implemented RAC on a 2 node cluster on LINUX AS4 ,Oracle 10g.

My doubt is why do we need separate logfiles, undo tablespaces when we are using a common storage for the database.
And even when a logswitch happens , the archive file is with respect to each instance and not global, why.

Please guide me .

Regards,
Raj

It is the way RAC works.
By requirement if one instance dies, the other should be fully functional. So RAC needs individual components/threads.
RAC is nothing but different instances sharing a common storage for common objects.

The transaction is happening to a particular instance only. So archives are created for that instance only.
