That's a bit too much to explain on a forum. Did you check the documentation?

Perhaps you could share with us what you found confusing? I mean, I can copy/paste the whole documentation text here, but that doesn't make much sense, does it?

Perhaps this blog entry can help you:
http://majendi.blogspot.com/2007/07/catching-up.html

Another good example of the use of presentation variables:
http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/02/21/oracle-bi-ee-101332-presentation-variables-in-top-filter/

PS could you please write in plain, full English next time? IM speak like 'u', 'plzz' etc, is hard to understand for non-native English readers (like me).

Respectable!

I am new to OBIEE. It becomes a challenge for me to pass variables from dashboard prompts and to catch their value in Answer's Request.

I would like to illustrate it with an example.
Request based on the following SQL statement

Select NAME, AGE, CITY, ADDRESS
From emp
Where DOB = '@{p_date}'

Now DOB is in TIMESTAMP format,
it looks like '11/1/2009 12:00:00 AM'.

Dash board Prompt also depends upon the same column and have also same TIMESTAMP format.

In next step
I created a dashboard page
Place prompt and report there
Saved the dashboard
Now I select a date from prompt list and press go button
It shows no result.

I tried several combinations in @{variable_name} syntax e.g.

Where DOB = '@{p_date}'
Where DOB = '@{p_date}{1-nov-2009} '
Where DOB = cast(to_char(@{p_date}, 'dd-mmm-yyyy') as date)
.........................
And many other combinations

I am looking for any help/tips in this regard

Thanking in anticipation

may be instead of using presentation variables , try using repository variables for date .

A company called NQuire created the application back in teh late 90s. It was originally designed around Ralph Kimballs ideas of Data Warehousing and was originally designed to be used with a database application known as Siebel, although it could use various data sources.

In the early 00s Siebel purchased the product from NQuire, but you will notice lots of traces of its original routes such as NQServer.log etc. At this point it became called Siebel Analytics.

In the mid 00s Oracle puchased Siebel as the centre piece of its CRM offering to become central to Oracle Fusion. They didn't realise that they also acquired Siebel Analytics with it, which has proven a stroke of luck. They have relabelled it Oracle Business Intelligence.

You can buy the platform which allows you to build a datawarehouse and on top of that you can buy BI Apps which provides out of the box solutions for both Siebel Apps and Oracle Apps (now).

In summary they are both the same thing Surprised)
