Is Debian really supported by Oracle 11g ?

What do you think?

Why do you suppose Oracle bother to publish a list of "supported" operating systems?

Just because something works for now doesn't obligate oracle to help you when it stops working.

To use release 11.2.0.3 legally, you must have licensed the machine and bought a support contract. When you made the purchase, what did Oracle say about using Debian?

Hello EdStevens, I'm trying to install Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 on Debian Wheeze (64bit) but I'm unable to complete the install because of this error:
INFO: /ha/oracle/product/11.2.0.1.0/lib//libagtsh.so: undefined reference to `nnfyboot'

Can you please point me to the guide you used to install and/or help me in the process?
Thanks!

The only guide I've ever used to install Oracle - any version, any OS - is the official Installation Guide. For 11.2 on Linux, that would be here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e47689/toc.htm

As has already been pointed out, you should start by paying attention to the supported operating systems, listed here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e47689/pre_install.htm#LADBI1106

And has already been pointed out, you will not find Debian on that list. There might be a reason for that.

There is no guarantee that the installation will succeed on a non-supported OS & no recourse when it fails.
When installing Oracle on non-supported OS & any problem occurs, then You're On Your Own (YOYO)!

Yes I know, but I've to use Debian so I've no choice (also, I'm happy this way).
Too bad Oracle is too lame to support the most universal distro out there: debian is the base for hundreds of other distros.

I've succeeded in the install, btw.

Thanks!

Thanks Alex! That was a great help.

Between http://www.makina-corpus.org/blog/howto-install-oracle-11g-ubuntu-linux-1204-precise-pangolin-64bits and http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/656 there are some very good tips for installing Oracle on Debian.
