I would like to initiate a wait (hour glass) or processing signal on a tab at the top of a page. The Tab goes to a region where a data set is brought up. If you click on the tab, the data shows up, but slowly. I have tried to initiate the action from within the region, but I have not come up with the right combination of events, i.e., Click followed by Submit Page where the process is turned off once the page is submitted. I did include a 'REGION_STATIC_ID' since one set of instructions suggested this.

Instead of masking a slow query, how about tuning it, making it faster & acceptable to end users?

Thank you for your reply. I was requested by a client to incorporate a waiting or processing signal. The table in question has 4 million + records. Although this is probably not a lot of records for some systems, it is for ours. I have applied indexes to several attributes in the table to speed processing. Thank you again.

Have a look at the Loading Icon plugin; maybe it'll suit your needs. Or, search for more plugins, people have developed them already, maybe you don't have to reinvent the wheel. On the other hand, you might get the idea by reviewing these examples and create one of your own.
